Description
Parking for this hike is easy to get to, located off the east side of 410 just under 10 miles south of the small town of Greenwater. Parking is to the right, Camp Sheppard is straight ahead (and a good GPS marker). The trail is clearly marked on the edge of the parking area. To get the most of the loop, head out on the Moss Lake Loop Trail #09 first. It will send you through some dense old growth forest with plenty of moss, and has interpretive signs along the way. You'll come back to the small theater and head back towards your destination. Cross the White River Trail #1199 and look signs for Snoquera Falls. Be sure to take the slightly center and uphill trail. The trail will begin to climb slowly but very steadily up a beautiful trail. The steady slope of the trail makes the elevation gain easy. A few switchbacks later and the trail will enter an opening with your first views of the falls. The rocky trail to the base of the falls is easy enough to navigate. The flow of the falls is highly dependent on the time of year/snow melt and is best in spring. There is an unofficial trail that people take to get closer to the falls near the northern cliff. It is quite steep and covered in loose rock. To take the loop back down continue north past the stream and down to your left along a quick set of switchbacks. The trail will be easy to follow as it heads north and slowly loses elevation. Although the longer of the two routes, the Snoquera Falls North trail has a few spots that are moderately steep and a few rocky spots. Still an easy trail, but certainly less smooth than the way up. The trail continues to the bottom of the valley where it meets the White River Trail #1199 again. Head south. Look for the small theater and trail back to the parking area. Be mindful that you'll be passing Camp Sheppard on your right, through which you shouldn't cut. Stay on the trail!
