Description
Located just south of Orange County, this peak quite suprisingly sees a little bit of traffic, especially on cooler days. The trailhead is located just off the windy road of Highway 74 next to a famous candy store. There is a big parking lot across the street from the store with a clean toilet nearby. The start of the trail is pretty dense and shaded. There are warnings of poison oak around the area, so it's best to stick to the trail and make sure your dog doesn't go off trail either. After a couple of miles, the trail widens and the trees get shorter. Make sure to take the correct trail; there are quite a few intersections along the way, so look at the signs and markers that are located at each intersection. The trail gets pretty rough and steep for the last half mile toward the summit block. There is a summit sign and a register box hidden somewhere in the rocks. It is quite a view from the summit. Note that there are no water sources on the trail, and half of the trail has no shade. It can be quite hot in the summer. Dogs are permitted on this trail, but watch out for ticks because the bushes are pretty dense and there are quite a few of them in there. After the hikes, stop by at the candy store for some refreshments and to try their famous pies.
