Description
Hiking this trail north to south is most popular; however, both directions are fun to do. Given the length of the trail, hikers likely want to hike it one direction and then shuttle cars to the end. The north and south trailheads are 30 miles apart on the Seward Highway for shuttling cars. By mid or late June, the trail is usually overgrown and becomes a little less fun. Downed trees across the trail and numerous shallow water crossings are often present in early or mid June. The trail is mostly smooth, but there are plenty of shorter sections where rocks and roots are abundant. Unlike Resurrection Pass, Devil's Pass, or Lost Lake, hiking above treeline is limited to a mile or two at the pass. Two lakes at the pass provide an opportunity to cool off and have lunch.
