Description
The Lost Canyon Trail can be reached via the Squaw Canyon Trail or the Peekaboo Trail. Begin your journey at the Squaw Flat Campground Loop A parking area. If you choose to start out from the Squaw Canyon Trail, your descent into Lost Canyon will be quite steep (21), and well marked with rock cairns. Once on the canyon floor, the relatively level trail winds through thick trees and brush, often paralleling and crossing a stream. The Lost Canyon Trail has three backcountry campsites marked with posts (LC1, LC2, and LC3). Continuing into the canyon, you'll come across LC3 on the left after about 1.2 miles. LC2 is up ahead, directly after a river crossing. To reach LC1, continue to the junction of Lost Canyon Trail and Peekaboo Trail, heading SE towards Peekaboo Trail. This desert trail it true to the setting, and you'll be moving over rough sandstone, along cliffs, and though sandy washes. The views are expansive, and there will be plenty of places to stop to appreciate the stark beauty around you.
