Description
This trail is sometimes referred to as "The Notch Trail." From the top, reached via Dark Canyon Corridor (FR 378), the trail descends steeply for the first half mile. Near the bottom, you'll emerge onto a grassy valley floor with deep stream channels carving through the soil. From this point, the rest of the trail involves some navigating and scrambling as it crosses through channels and follows faint paths through the grass. As you approach the first channel crossing, keep to the left side of the valley and look for a trail climbing out on the same side a little ways down. In a little bit you'll do the same thing again, but this time exit to the right. From here, the trail leads to the end of a long, grassy bluff before heading through the channel. Pick you way along this wide section as best you can. After less than a half mile, look for an exit to your right. This channel-to-grass dance continues nearly till the end of the hike where the Scorup Cabin sits. This historic building was originally located in Rig Canyon but was relocated by J.A. Scorup for use by his cowhands from 1930 until the 1970s. If so inclined, enjoy a gentle look around the property. When you're done, either head back the way you came or continue to Peavine Corridor Road (089) along the old road trace north of Scorup Cabin.
