Description
The gravel trail runs along the site of the former C&O Railroad and is now maintained by Virginia Military Institute (VMI). The trail runs adjacent to the Maury River, and in places (primarily west of the I-81 overpass) it is possible to access the river to swim directly from the trail without trespassing on private property. As a great multi-use option in the area, don't be surprised to see cyclists out enjoying the trail. There are eight farm gates along the way, and all but one have recently been replaced with bicycle-friendly accessways. Parking and access to the trail is available at each end and where the trail crosses South River.
