Starting from US-340, the Dickey Ridge trail parallels Skyline Drive as it steadily ascends its namesake ridge, passing the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center at mile 3.8 and cresting Dickey Hill ca. mile 5.2 at an expansive overlook to the west of the Browntown Valley.
From there, the trail descends to Low Gap before ascending gradually to Lands Run Gap and then continuing steeply up Carson Mountain to its southern terminus at the Appalachian Trail AT, just north of Compton Gap.
Along the way, hikers will enjoy the rolling trail, as most grades are somewhat moderate. Beautiful Appalachian scenery flanks both sides of this trail, and hikers will be captivated by the local tree and shrub populations.
