Tiger Mine Road

Tiger Mine Road is a moderately trafficked 3-mile out-and-back along a scenic dirt road trail located near the small town of Oracle, Arizona. From Highway 77, it extends north across a landscape of Sonoran Desert shrubs overlooking the San Pedro River Valley and Oracle State Park. The trail traverses expansive ridges with scenic vistas. This is a relatively short, and easy, trail with an overall elevation gain of approximately 167-feet. The sun is the main challenge of this hike. There's little to no shade or water on this route, so make sure you dress in sun protective clothing and bring enough food and water. Spring and fall are ideal times of the year to visit. This is a wonderful area for bird watching and nature viewing. Native desert plants such as prickly pear cactus, saguaro, cholla, and teddy bear cactus are seen along the trail, along with desert grasses and wildflowers in spring.Tiger Mine Road is also part of the 800-mile-long Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT). Tiger Mine Trailhead makes for a great parking area or drop off spot for anyone planning a section hike along the AZT. The trail is accessible year-round, though temperatures can be extreme in the summer, and is open to trail runners, hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders.
