Description
Table Rock is one of the most prominent and featured hikes of the Boise Metro Region. It offers outstanding views of the Treasure Valley below, and many hikers make their way to the iconic cross that stands on the northwest point of the mesa. However, fewer hikers make their way to the south and east sections of the Table Rock Loop Trail that circumnavigates the entire feature. A hike along this trail offers multiple options for climbers and boulderers to test their grip on the coarse sandstone walls. Accessible from the parking area, hikers can follow the Table Rock Loop Trail along the top of the cliffs, from which multiple access points are apparent. A small scramble down to the bottom of the sandstone reveals multiple climbing walls and caves. This eastern wall is the most protected from heat during hot Boise summers. The southern tip of the Loop Trail offers a few more prominent features worth climbing. The grip on some of these climbs is still rough, but it may be slightly more stable than the east wall features. There are a few tough-to-find routes that can be top-roped for sport climbers. These sections are not climbed often and may require some testing before climbing. Enjoy the views of the Boise River to the south and the rolling hills to the north and east as you spend your day in the sun traversing the small holds. Bring crash pads, as the landing can include rough sandstone boulders. Unfortunately, this area has been abused by visitors over the years. Please help maintain these feature walls. Do not bring glass bottles to outdoor areas, do not litter, and do not paint or carve into the features. This area deserves your respect so people can continue to enjoy it for a long time. If you notice trash, please help maintain the area by picking it up and removing it.
