The Okolehao Trail starts off just outside the hamlet of Hanalei near the large bridge that takes you into town. Starting close to the large taro fields, a small footbridge takes you over an irrigation channel and quickly into the dense jungle. There are a ton of different species of plants, trees and wildflowers to see along the way. Mountain orchids, aohiaa lehua, and various types of ginger can be seen growing wild at several places along the trail. There are great views of Hanalei Bay and the small town of Hanalei just inland from the sandy shores. A bench sits at the final lookout and gives you a chance to take in the panoramic views. This isn't as amazing as many of the hikes in Kauai, but it is still a fun trek with a lot fewer people than many of the more famous destinations nearby. The trail is steep in a few places and usually muddy from consistent rain.
