Pehehoni Point

The trail to Pehehoni Point follows a short path weaving away from the crowds who typically gather at nearby Two Step Beach and ends up at a dramatic rocky seascape with a palm-dotted sandy beach, rock arches, and views along this volcanic coastline.The trail begins at the end of the one-way Honaunau Beach Road leading away from Two Step Beach, where a couple tight parking spots can be seen just before the stop sign. The path follows a rocky trail amidst the brush and wild flowers. Along the walk, several short foot paths can be seen veering left to the rocky coast and the area locals call City of Arches. However sticking to the brushy route which generally follows a worn path and is sometimes marked with streamers will eventually lead to a sandy beach area with several young palms that sits atop the rocky outcroppings. From the sandy area, Pehehoni Point is just a little bit further, making up a landscape with blowholes, rock arches, and dramatic cliffs where higher and choppier tides will put on a show. The area is worth exploring, and locals will sometimes swim here during calmer waters.The area does not have the amenities that the more popular Two Step Beach has, in fact, there are no amenities of any type anywhere along the path or point. However those looking to escape the crowds may find themselves the only people in this area.It is possible to follow the trail-less stone formations back to the road, which will require a little roadside walking to reach your car. Otherwise retrace your route back along the brushy trail.
