Description
Pusch Peak is an easily accessible summit on the West side of the Santa Catalina Mountains. It is a very distinct peak that can be seen from Tucson. The hike up Pusch Peak is not too long but is quite steep. The out and back hike to the summit via the Linda Vista Trail is about 4 miles long and gains over 2600 feet of elevation. This trail starts at the Linda Vista Trailhead in Oro Valley, AZ. From here, you will begin hiking on Linda Vista Trail #49. The trail is gradually uphill to begin. You hike amongst giant Saguaros as well as various other Sonoran Desert plants. While hiking this part of the trail, you will be able to see the summit of Pusch Peak in the distance. After about .7 miles on Linda Vista Trail #49, there will be a junction and you will take the Pusch Peak Trail. From here, it is about 1.3 miles and just under 2,300 feet of elevation gain to reach the summit. This portion of the trail is not maintained by the Forest Service but is well traveled enough to follow easily. The Pusch Peak Trail is very steep and has sections of trail that are rocky and require careful footwork. From the summit, you will see Oro Valley and Tucson along with expanses of the Sonoran Desert. There are also great views of the rugged Santa Catalina Mountains to the East. The Santa Rita Mountains are also in view to the South. The hike up Pusch Peak is grueling but is made worthwhile by the incredible views at the summit. This is a great adventure for a motivated hiker. The hike to Pusch Peak can get very hot during the day. There are not any reliable water sources on this hike, so be sure to bring plenty of water.
