There and Back
The trail begins at Bunny Flat. Hike upward on the moderate, heavily-used trail through sparse pines. After 0.1 miles, turn sharply left following signs for the Horse Camp. Continue another 0.9 miles to another trail junction;stay right here, again following signs for the Horse Camp. From here, the grade of the trail steepens and becomes dustier as it heads uphill through the forest to enter the wilderness 0.2 miles later. The forest breaks into meadows and views of Mt. Shasta just before the Sierra Club cabin at the Horse Camp, 0.7 miles later. The area is administered by the Sierra Club;a restroom and water is usually available. The Horse Camp is a destination along the way for more adventures - most of the people in the area are climbing Mt. Shasta, trekking to Lake Helen, continuing along the Hidden Valley Route to Hidden Valley, or on their way to other adventures high on the slopes of Mt. Shasta.
