Susan River Trail

The Susan River Trail is a 1.3 mile point-to-point paved multi use path paralleling the scenic Susan River through the town of Susanville.The path remains fairly flat, and with the exception of one road crossing with a crosswalk, is an uninterrupted path through the town that can make either a nice commuting path or just a peaceful nature walk beside riverbanks teeming with life.The path connects several points of interest in town, including a large grocery store at the south end, the baseball diamonds and a calm riverbeach, a community garden, and ends within a short walk of the mid-downtown area.Being closed to vehicles, the path is a popular spot for locals to walk their dogs and cyclists to get out and go for an easy ride away from traffic. Near the south end of the trail is a cascade in the river and views of the mountains that encapsulate Susanville, while near the northern end of the trail the path is enclosed by trees, and city park exercise stations appear along the trail.As a work in progress, the river trail is slowly seeing improvements that will place even more benches and lights along the path to try to increase the quality of the path.There is no dedicated street parking near the northern end, though walkers can park at the baseball fields. At the southern end of the trail, parking is available in a government building lot adjacent to the trailhead.Currently, the only bathrooms are several outhouses at the baseball fields. Opposite the ball fields is a flat dirt access to the river's edge.
