Description
The Wetlands & Pond Trail (no blazes) can be accessed from the Lower Parking Lot within the Pandapas Pond Day Use Area. It departs from the southernmost point of the parking lot heading to Pandapas Pond. The doubletrack trail weaves around the pond. One lap around the pond is .75 miles (.6 if taking the bridge that bisects the pond). The trail going west from the northwest corner of the pond turns into singletrack until its junction with the orange-blazed Poverty Creek Trail. The Wetlands & Pond Trail also connects with the blue-blazed Horse Nettle Trail, orange-blazed Lady Slipper Trail and the yellow-blazed Lark Spur Trail (unsigned at junction with the pond). This is a shared trail with many walkers and runners and there are often several people fishing; be sure to respect their experiences. Hunting is illegal within the Pandapas Pond Day Use Area, but wear bright colors during hunting season (October 1st through the first week of January), especially if exiting out of the Day Use Area on the Poverty Creek Trail or Horse Nettle Trail. And be friendly; say "hi" to other folks out enjoying the forest! And check out the Poverty Creek Trail Coalition on Facebook to see about opportunities to give back and do some trail service!
