Description
I wanted a 4-5 mile trail that was dog friendly, decided to check this out a few weeks ago. Unfortunately nowhere online does it mention the bridge being out between way markers 9 ad 11, nor the section of the pink loop closed from January to July.Going clockwise gives you gentle ascents and steeper descents, which many beginners like myself will enjoy. The trail is mostly hard packed old homestead roads, with occasional singletrack mixed in. Sandy areas become a welcome escape from the rest of the hard packed trail. The pink loop section offers expansive views of the marsh, and if you're lucky, nesting Bald Eagles. The northern section of the orange loop is low land marsh, offering encounters with water fowl, and even the Grey Rat Snake. The junction of the pink and orange trails offers a small stand of pines which make you feel like you're up north.
History & Background
Starting in 2012 a pair of Bald Eagles began nesting in the Pink Loop, one of the few such nesting sites in Southeastern Michigan.
