Description
The Grant-Kohrs Nature trail is a dirt and grass trail that follows the border of the National Historic Site and provides great views of the beautiful views of the site. The trail starts inside Grant Kohrs National Historic Site on the road to the house, and follows the train tracks for a while before entering the preserve and moving to a grass trail that is mowed by the National Park Service. The trail follows the fence line and crosses a small creek before turning to the right and going further out into the site. Along the way, there are signs that provide information on the animals and some of the plants that call the the site home. There are beautiful views of the surrounding hills, the hay fields, and the Grant Kohrs house. Depending on the time of year, you may see park employees doing various farm chores in the fields around you. They could be cutting or baling hay, working with the animals, or doing other chores that are required to keep the site working. When you get to the creek, this is the end of the trail and your only option is to turn around and work your way back to your car. The construction of the nature trail was made possible through a partnership with the Granville Stuart Elementary 3rd-5th graders.
