Point to Point
North Ridge Trail starts and ends at trail junctions along Lisa Killough Trail. These trail junctions are close to the Lisa Killough Trail trailhead at the Rancho San Vicente Entrance to Calero County Park. This entrance is on McKean Road in the northwest corner of the park.
To access North Ridge Trail from the parking area at the Rancho San Vicente Entrance, hike 0.2 miles on Lisa Killough Trail to a trail junction where North Ridge Trail starts. Go right at this trail junction in the grass hills of Calero County Park. From here, North Ridge Trail heads northwest on a grassy hillside. The ridge rises to the left of the trail. To the right of the trail, one can see rural Almaden Valley below and the Diablo Range in the distance. At first, the trail is relatively flat.
At about the 0.4 mile mark, North Ridge Trail reaches the end of the ridge and a trail junction with Almaden Trail on the right. Almaden Trail is a short 0.5 mile connector to a park entrance on Almaden Road. Stay to the left at this trail junction to continue hiking the North Ridge Trail.
After passing Almaden Trail, North Ridge Trail climbs the ridge as it veers left to head back southeast. From high on the ridge, one can see the Santa Cruz Mountains in the distance to the right (southwest).
North Ridge Trail ends at Lisa Killough Trail at a trail junction 0.2 miles past its start on Lisa Killough Trail. The entire loop on North Ridge Trail from the parking area is about 1.8 miles.
