Description
When hiking the Snowshoe Trail B1 basic route, there are two trail options at the ravine. Continue on B1 through the steeper part of the ravine and use the ropes to help with the crossing, or turn left onto B3 where there is a somewhat gentler crossing of Birch Brook (the stream). The forest here takes a beating from the wind and depending on current blow downs, the trail can be a bit of an obstacle course. That makes it fun. There is a bit of a steep climb where the trail travels up the bank of the escarpment to join Snowshoe Trail B1 - Escarpment Loop. Markers and signs are skimpy in this area, as trees that were markers have fallen and signs need to be replaced. That makes it interesting! How can you get lost while snowshoeing? Just follow your own tracks back! If trying the trail off season, be aware that there is no bridge over the brook.
