Description
The first 4 miles of this great trail is uphill through thick forest. About 1/2 way into your journey, you'll pass Frog Lake at the base of Venus Peak. This lake is fairly small, but it's a good place to fill up on water, as your next water source is quite a ways down the trail. Once you reach the top at Violet Hill you see Devil's Peak. There is a fork in the trail here, turn left to Lake Alta, right to Devil's Peak or continue down the Seven Lakes Trail, winding through the forest passing several seasonal ponds. South Lake is on the left side of the trail, a small glass smooth lake with trees coming down to the shore. There are a couple of camp sites here. A little farther down the trail on the right is Cliff Lake considered by many to be the best, though due to heavy use the Forest Service has requested that other campsites be used. The trail levels out as it passes Middle Lake on the left. The Lake Ivern Trail fork is to the left at the north end of Middle Lake. It's about a 2.5 mile trail that leads to Lake Ivern and Boston Bluff. SIDE NOTE: In the late 1960's I was on the Forest Service trail crew that build the Lake Ivern Trail. Another story for another time. Continuing on the trail toward Grass Lake there is a horse camp and the trail finally ends by connecting to the PCT.
