Description
On the north edge of Missoula, the North Hills Ridge & Cherry Gulch Loop serves up big views and mellow miles without leaving city limits. This 2.2 mile loop climbs gently onto an open ridge before dropping into the tucked-away folds of Cherry Gulch. This trail is a shady, pine-fringed draw that's a local favorite for quick escapes and family outings. Expect a 375-foot elevation gain that feels just steep enough to get your lungs going before leveling into rolling singletrack. The terrain blends exposed benches and rocky outcrops with smoother tread in the gulch, making it ideal for casual hikers and those short on time. Dogs are welcome, the loop is open year-round, and it’s popular with trail runners, too. For the best experience, start early to catch golden light across the Rattlesnake and avoid midday heat on the open ridge.
