<p>Start at the Tin Cup Trailhead at Pettit Lake. Head west on the Pettit Lake Trail for 0.2 miles to the junction with the Pettit Lake Cutoff Trail. Keep left to follow the Alice Lake Trail, climbing steadily through lodgepole pine and fir forests along Pettit Creek. Cross the creek several times, which can be hazardous during spring snowmelt.<p>
<p>At 5.5 miles, enter the Alice Lake Basin and pass Alice Lake. Continue past Twin Lakes at 6.7 miles, then begin a steep climb up rocky switchbacks. Reach the crest of Snowyside Pass at 7.8 miles, gaining 2,400 vertical feet from the start.<p>
<p>Descend the northwest side of the pass to Toxaway Lake at 9.5 miles. Turn right onto the Toxaway-Pettit Trail, heading northeast down the drainage. Continue past Farley Lake at 13.0 miles. At 16.5 miles, turn right onto the Pettit Lake Cutoff Trail and follow it back to the trailhead to complete the route.<p>
