Description
Blackhawk Trail #501 is a 25.8-mile out-and-back through San Juan National Forest. The trail extends between Forest Road 578 / Hermosa Park Road and Forest Road 550 / Hotel Draw Road. It features colorful geology, verdant hillsides, and lush pine forests. There are flower filled valleys and scenic vistas with expansive views of the San Juan Mountains. This is a high alpine trail that runs between 12,000 feet and 10,200 feet with an overall elevation gain of around 4,409 feet. It crosses various trails and offers access to Blackhawk Mountain (12,648') and Section Point Peak (11,940'). The trail can be completed as a challenging day hike or extended overnight as a backpacking trip. It is open to runners, hikers, backpackers, and equestrians. CAMPING AND PERMITSOvernight permits are not required for San Juan National Forest.
