Access this hike off the east side of Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, across from the Ossagon Trail and trailhead (mile marker 132.74). Head up the quicker and easier of the two trails on Hope Creek Trail that heads up Hope Creek through a riparian (creekside) habitat. After three-quarters of a mile, this trail begins to level off with another three-quarters of a mile up to a broad ridge.Continue onto the Ten Taypo Trail as it bends to the south and west. This trail allows visitors to take a peek into a lesser known aspect of a this typically lush ecosystem. With fog and rainfall keeping the area generally damp, it can be difficult for visitors to envision wildfire moving through the area, however, fire is a natural part of the life cycle in the park. While returning on this trail, keep an eye out for a grove of giant redwoods with deep fire scars. Even with this apparent damage, many have continued their slow and persistent growth. Once back at the Hope Creek Trail, turn left (west) and retrace your steps to the parking area and trailhead.
