Razor Point Trail

Razor Point Trail, located within Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, is a short trek that leads to a dramatic overlook of eroding cliffs and the Pacific Ocean. The unique ecosystem of this area is home to the Torrey Pine, the rarest pine tree in the nation, as well as 300 other protected and endangered species of native plants. Begin on the western side of Torrey Pines Park Road, directly across from the visitor center. The trail gradually descends via a series of switchbacks through chaparral. Along the way be sure to stop at Red Butte, a sandstone projection with panoramic views of the coastline and ocean. Razor Point Trail intersects with several other trails along the way, including West Overlook Trail, Yucca Point Trail, and the Beach Trail. Yucca Point and West Overlook are both lookouts that are accessible via a short detour, and the Beach Trail is a longer hike that leads to the shore. Razor Point is a lookout area as well, located 150 feet above the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day the view extends to La Jolla and Catalina Island.
