Description
The signed trailhead for the Knob Hill Trail is on the east side of Winslow Road, just across from Filly Drive. Posted signs prohibit parking on Winslow Road or Filly Drive. Instead, park at the community center at the corner of Winslow Road and Singletree Road. Start hiking eastwards between someone's beautifully landscaped front yard and a golf green. Ascend the dry scrub hillside at a consistent and mellow grade. The skinny trail is smooth without roots or rocks to slow you down. Round the corner and get the first good views of Arrowhead ski resort and the mountains beyond. A series of somewhat challenging switchbacks brings you to a clearing with a great viewpoint and a tiny bench. Continue northeast along the ridge line and then descend off the backside. Be sure to stay on the main trail, as there are closed trails in the process of being restored here. Look east into the June Creek drainage below and spot the many switchbacks of the Wild West Ridge Trail as it ascends the next ridge over. Soon the Knob Hill Trail reaches a saddle where an old doubletrack road branches left to the west. Keeping right (northeast) at the fork and descending a rougher more eroded trail brings you to a junction with a 4WD fire road (7171A), just around the corner from the terminus of the June Creek Trail.
