Point to Point
The hike starts at the shelter at Walasi-yi, which has a water source and outdoor toilets. The hike begins by entering the AT at the shelter, and starting up a moderate trail until you get to a "standing rock". At this point, ensure you stay on the AT, going up blood mountain (follow the white blazes). When you reach the summit of Blood Mountain (around two miles or so in), and pass by the shelter there, ensure you stay on the AT going down the other side of the mountain. (Do not take the Duncan Ridge Trail).Head down the other side of the mountain, through various switchbacks, staying on the AT. After about three miles you'll eventually reach a crossroads, where the AT goes to the left, and a blue-blazed trail (going to Lake Winfield Scott) goes off to the right. You want the blue-blazed trail at this point. The blue blazes do not continue very far, but the trail should be easy to follow. There were several trees fallen across the path in 2018, and they may still be there. This part of the trail starts following along various streams and creeks that eventually empty out into Lake Winfield Scott.Eventually after a mile or so, you'll reach Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area, emptying out onto Jarrard Gap Road.
