Description
The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, also known as the K-T or "Katy" line, had rail running up the Arkansas River valley from Tulsa. The abandoned right-of-way was used for a paved path. (There are numerous "Katy" rail-to-trail conversions spread across Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.) The trail runs between the Sand Springs Expressway to the north and Charles Page Boulevard to the south. The trail begins at the Case Community Park in Sand Springs and is a paved sidepath on the south side of W. Wekiwa Road for the first 3/4 of a mile. After crossing Wilson Avenue (SH 97) the dedicated paved trail crosses S. Main and S. Adams streets then runs east with six at-grade street crossings and under the Tisdale/Crosstown/Sand Springs/Red Fork cloverleaf to access downtown Tulsa at N. Denver Avenue and W. Archer Street. The eastern third has more shade cover than the western third.
