This moderate route begins and ends at a small pullout on Lakeview Drive, west of Oscawana Lake. The trail starts by heading north through mixed hardwood forest, gradually climbing to reach the Oscawana Ridge. From the initial rise, hikers encounter short but steep rocky sections typical of the Hudson Highlands, with filtered views of the lake below. At the first major junction, stay left to continue following the ridge. Stay on the primary trail as it contours through quiet woods and crosses several seasonal stream beds. These may be dry in late summer, so plan to carry all necessary water.
Roughly halfway through the route, the trail ascends Candlewood Hill. This high point offers a panoramic clearing with views of surrounding forested hills and distant ridgelines. After the summit, descend gradually through rocky terrain, keeping left at the next Y-intersection to begin the return leg. The trail undulates along wooded slopes, eventually reconnecting with the outgoing route. Despite some narrow and rugged sections, this is one of the quieter hikes in Clarence Fahnestock State Park, with rewarding views and opportunities for solitude.
