The Cajon Group of Ancestral Pueblo ruins is at the rim of a small canyon in the middle of nowhere. There are several structures on top of the canyon and some below underneath ledges. Just underneath the main buildings at Cajon, there is a very small seep that allows water to trickle down the canyon. This water source would have been critical to the Ancestral Pueblo and also the animals in the area. To see the ruins, it is a very short and easy .10 mile. The entire area is fenced in and you will see a Hovenweep sign at the gate. You will see some of the towers and structures at Cajon right from the trailhead. Once you arrive at the first couple of ruins look to the south and you will see that the Ancestral Pueblo living here had an incredible vantage point and could easily spot deer and other game below. These ruins are in the middle of nowhere with services being far away. Please be respectful of the ruins and do not climb on top or inside of them. Please stay on the trail and observe from a distance.
