Description
The Red Rock State Park of Arizona is a small but beautiful recreation area that offers some nice hiking options. There is a day use fee to use the park and the hiking here is not much different from other areas around Sedona, but for those who want nice picnic facilities along with their hike, this is a great choice. Note: They are very strict about not allowing dogs into the park. Among the various trail choices, several loops can be constructed of various distances. This adventure documents a 1.8-mile loop including parts of several park trails. It begins at the visitor center, crosses Oak Creek to the west and follows it upstream on the Kisva Trail, where it then climbs up to the viewpoints on the Eagleas Nest Loop. From there it crosses the park on Coyote Ridge and catches part of the Apache Fire Trail down to the river again, where the Bunkhouse Trail heads back to the visitor center. Along the way there are wonderful vistas of red rock country, the deep riparian shade of Oak Creek, and nice views of the historic House of Apache Fire.
