Jordan Hot Springs Hike

Jordan Hot Springs is an absolutely lovely destination located deep in the majestic Middle Fork Canyon of the Gila River. It can be accessed by a 17 mile out and back hike using the Middle Fork Trail (#157). Alternatively it can also be accessed by the Little Bear Canyon Trail (#729).If hiking via the Middle Fork Route you'll begin by parking at the Middle Fork Trailhead near the Gila Visitor Center. The trail then follows the Middle Fork of the Gila River the entire way up to the hot springs.Be sure to wear a comfortable pair of trail runners or hiking sandals for this trip, as your feet will be constantly wet from the numerous crossings of the Gila River.As you continue upstream the stunning canyons of the Middle Fork only get better. Towering canyon walls and fascinating hoodoo formations will have you stopping for photos around each bend.As you near Jordan Hot Springs, be sure to keep an eye open for the unmarked (but well traveled) path to the right. This short path leads uphill to the hot springs that are hidden from the main trail.The main pool at Jordan Hot Springs is large enough to fit quite a few people. The crystal clear water is a beautiful sight, and has a temperature of around 94-100 degrees F depending on the season.There are good spots for camping nearby, which makes the 17 mile trek a bit more manageable, not to mention that soaking in the hot springs during evening or night is a delight. When you've had enough fun, return the way you came back to the trailhead.
