Features

Gull Lake is one of the few inland lakes in southern Michigan that supports both excellent cold and warm water fisheries. This lake is very popular with both boaters and fishermen, and recreational boating pressure on weekends and holidays can be extremely heavy. A maximum boat speed of 40 mph is in effect to improve safety. Michigan State University operates the Kellog Biological Station and Bird Sanctuary along the east shore. In early November, the DNR operates a weir at Prairieville Creek to collect Atlantic salmon eggs for the state hatchery program. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has placed special restrictions on the harvest of Atlantic salmon to protect the state’s broodstock. Please consult current state regulations before fishing.

Forage

Common shiner, golden shiner, sand shiner, Johnny darter and logperch are common. Young-of-the-year perch and bluegill are utilized by the larger predators. Mayfly larvae and zooplankton are important to the Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout and perch.
