Features

Busse Lake is located within the Ned Brown Forest Preserve. It was constructed in 1978 as a flood control reservoir and public recreation area. During construction, approximately 25 percent of the lake was dredged to a depth of over 10 feet. After intensive stocking efforts, the lake was opened to fishing in 1980.---Gas outboard motors are not allowed and the use of boats on North Pool is prohibited. All boats must stay 100 feet from dams and spillways. Because Busse Lake is designated as a fish preserve, special fishing regulations are in effect. Length and daily bag limits are posted at all fishing walls and access sites.---The Ned Brown Forest Preserve offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Picnic areas, bicycle trails and hiking trails are found throughout the preserve.

Forage

Golden shiner, sucker, bullhead, various minnows and juvenile carp and panfish are the primary forage species.

Seasonal Movements

The marsh north of Higgins Road is an important northern pike spawning area.
