Path Type
There and Back
This route starts and ends at the AT/LT Kelley Stand Road parking area, reaching the summit of Stratton Mountain.
From the parking area, follow the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail north, climbing gradually through mixed hardwood and softwood forest. At 1.3 miles, cross Forest Road 341, then begin a steeper climb. The trail levels along a ridge with openings toward Somerset Reservoir to the south, then climbs a final set of switchbacks to Stratton Mountain's wooded summit and fire tower, reached at about 3.4 miles.
Retrace the same route back down the switchbacks, ridge, and lower forest to the trailhead for a round trip of about 6.9 miles, gaining roughly 1,763 vertical feet.
