Windigo Nature Loop

Begin by the store uphill from the Visitor Center and hike along the hills around Windigo. See several examples of how man, moose, and natural forces have shaped Isle Royale. At the last marker, continue down to the waterfront where the Windigo Nature Trail ends at the junction of the Feldtmann Lake Trail and the Washington Creek Trail, head right onto the Washington Creek Trail, which returns to the Windigo dock.Look for the Moose Exclosure, where balsam fir trees are allowed to grow unaffected by moose grazing that otherwise stunts these trees across the island.
